Here at Topaz near Malanda the Rainbow Lorikeets dominate, but the bulky and bossy Satin Bowerbirds give them a run, followed by Hornbill Friarbirds which tend to dominate when the first two are absent

I have had variable outcomes on the back deck with rainbows. Yes, they are usually the most aggressive (albeit typically ignoring the solitary CP that sometimes wanders in). But sometimes the galahs will take them on. Both will push off the King parrots and rosellas. But the currawongs and magpies make short work of all of them.

Hi All.
Rainbow Lorikeets are tough, will see off SC Cockatoos, Noisy Miners, even butcherbirds.
But Crested Pigeons show no mercy toward the lorikeets when squabbling over food.
They sidle up to the lorikeet, rapidly flap their wing three or four times, hitting the lorikeet, and the lorikeet moves off.. otherwise the CP chases and pecks at the lorikeet who offers no resistance but gets out of the way.

The antics of young R Lorikeets now about are continuously entertaining , particularly when bathing together in a shallow bowl..

Lockdown has its compensations.

Best

Michael
