Perfect timing Russell, well done! The bird showed well again this morning on a rising tide, I got there about 0650 and if flew off with 2 Greenshanks at 0710; good chance again this arvo I reckon. It feeds a bit like a Terek Sand, dashing about with head lowered, and is noticeably smaller and with a shorter thicker bill than Greenshank, with shorter quite stout yellow legs. Great to have a local mega for a change.Happy New Year to all, here’s hoping for a much better one

Great to meet up with a few other birders on Cairns Esplanade this afternoon to get good views of the Nordmann’s Greenshank discovered and photographed by Adrian Walsh earlier today. His photos are on eBird and show the bird beside a Common Greenshank as well as with lifted wings. What a stunning bird to kick off the new year!
