For those who may find this of interest…
In the past 2 to 4 weeks there’s been very good numbers of Black-chinned (Golden-backed) Honeyeaters in both the Mt Molloy and Wondecla districts just inland from Cairns, FNQ.
They are very golden-backed, however their naked skin above the eyes is a bright blue-green colour rather than blue for Black-chinned ‘gularis’, or yellowish-green for Golden-backed ‘laetior’ races. All the birds I’ve seen have been adults,
so it seems pretty safe to say that these birds would be ‘half-castes’ and showing traits of both sub-species. They are very striking looking birds indeed!!
So keep your ears open for their ringing call notes if you want to see them…
