During the winter months of 2013 there was an irruption of Black Kites in the Pilbara. The usual kites seen along the Pilbara coast are Whistling, Brahminy and Black-shouldered. Black Kites are usually few in number but in mid-2013 they arrived on mass and congregated at the Karratha landfill site. They joined in with Little Corella’s, Silver Gulls and the other resident kites.

Birds in large numbers are always appealing to witness… even over a rubbish tip… and a few dromedaries at Newhaven to round things off...
