Hi Michael, There was an extensive discussion about the decline in sparrow numbers in Australian cities on Birding-aus in early February 2019. This can be accessed from the Birding-aus archives http://birding-aus.org/?s=sparrow Kind regards, Stephen Stephen Ambrose Ryde NSW From: Birding-Aus <> On Behalf Of Graeme Stevens Sent: 5 August 2020 10:27 AM To: Michael Hunter <>; Subject: Re: [Birding-Aus] Sparrows and starlings In answer to your question, this might be of interest. | The extent of the much-reported "insect apocalypse" has been called into question by a new wide-ranging analysis of insect population studies from across the globe. |
Our resident sparrows here in Mulgoa Valley disappeared when the then neighbours left with their horses. About five years ago. But House Sparrows have also vanished elsewhere. Was thus amazed to see a single male in North Penrith Bunnings garden dept a couple of weeks ago. Lack of insects to feed their young said to be the reason for their demise.
Where have all the insects gone?
