The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period
Monday, June 22, 2020 to Sunday, June 28, 2020:
Area: SA
Date: Monday, June 15, 2020
Location: Barrananna Gorge, Gammon Ranges
Grey Teal (Anas gracilis) (12) There were a couple of waterholes in Barrananna
Gorge at most 30 metres by 10 metres. I think I have seen waterholes there
before, though many years ago, so maybe they are permanent. Apart from a single
heavy downpour in February there has been almost no rain for several years.
Dead trees away from the creek lines and dead roos everywhere were abundant.
Cruising in one of the waterholes was a large family of grey teal, mum, dad and
10 ducklings. I am sure the ducklings were too small to have flown in, so
likely they had hatched in the gorge. It was a delightful and very unexpected
sight
