Lumpers and splitters. It often ends badly. Lol. Once upon a time (1950s?) there was a punch-up at an RAOU campout over similar arguments. It's remarkable how early taxonomists such as Mathews got much of it right. I like to look at Cayley's "What Bird is That" for spiritual guidance.

BA follows HBW/BLI which accepts the very obvious split. They should
never have been lumped.

IOC has recently made shriketits a monotypic family, but I guess it
is waiting for someone to publish a paper before they make the split
into three species.
