All true of course. Also production of a checklist for Britain is surely an easier and smaller print job than Australia, as UK being much smaller, there are fewer species to be included.

I think you’re battling the numbers of birders here vs the UK where, although the population is about 2x that of Australia, the proportion of the population that participates in birding at some level or other is much higher – not only keen birders that don’t do recording on apps but far more casual birders that like a book for use once or twice a year visit to somewhere plus what they see on their bird table.  And the RSPB has a ready made distribution network as many of their reserves (and those run by WWT such as Slimbridge and County Nature Trusts) have shops - hence a production run of such a book would probably still be viable in the UK.  I doubt it would be here.

I hope that Birdlife WA is able to get that done.  The updated BirdLife list and format of the blue book would suit me.

I appreciate all the responses to our query and while the smartphone/computer option is there, I find the book and pencil is the convenient one for us.

Sue Abbotts has advised that BirdLife WA is doing costings to print an updated blue book. The main issue is that they would have to follow the Birdlife list not IOC.

The little blue book put out by BOCA was a great way to keep your sightings recorded. Is there any chance that it, or something similar could be produced?  Or does anyone know of something similar and where to get it?
