Phil When I said the bird was sitting on eggs at the time the tree was lopped, what I meant was that there was an active nest in the tree with eggs in it at the time the tree was lopped. And of course, presumably when the chainsaw was out or whatever, the bird would have at least temporarily kept away from the nest. I hadn't thought that needed explaining.
