We had about 30 Fairy Martins roosting on the roof of the house yesterday. At first I thought that we just had a few more Welcome Swallows than usual but, when they settled on the roof, I grabbed the binoculars and it became obvious that they were Martins. I counted 28 on the roof and there were a few more still in the air. We have been here for 18 months and I haven’t seen Martins here before. The conditions weren’t out of the ordinary and they didn’t seem to be hawking for insects.
