That's extremely sad news, and I agree with Geoff, that his passing is a huge
loss to Australian ornithology. He was a mentor to a whole generation of bird
banders, and to many birdwatchers, naturalists and to the wider public. He not
only passed on his ornithological skills and knowledge unselfishly, he always
encouraged others to develop skills of their own, and be as generous as him in
sharing them. He treated everybody as a close friend, and I will miss his sly
humour and infectious laugh. My sincerest condolences to Alma. RIP Perry.

Subject: [Birding-Aus] a sad loss Perry de Rebeira
Some of you banders and some others in the community will know Perry de Rebeira
illustrator of Birds of Rottnest Island and author of Bander’s Guide to Birds
of Western Australia. He sadly passed away yesterday after a visit to his
beloved Eyre Bird Observatory. A sad loss to the banding community or his
knowledge, skills and mentoring to so many of us. They do not make them like
him often. RIP. Geoff Shannon
