Hi John/Tom,
Sorry should have been more clear.
Yes, I am in suburban Sydney (Como) and it is fairly dry at the moment, but not
significantly hotter/drier than other summers and birds have been coming to the
pool to drink every year without any fatalities.
What I want to know is how/why they are dying at the current rate. It’s like
Midsomer Murders around here at the moment.

no comment on where you are, but if in suburban Sydney, it’s been so dry they
may have been looking for a drink?
(As well as my bird bath, we have used some (cleaned) saucers for flower pots
and filled them with water to give the birds an alternative.)
Cheers

Subject: Off-topic mystery
Hi all,
Slightly off topic but hopefully someone can help.
I have a metal-framed vinyl swimming pool, 3m diameter that I set up for the
kids in the back yard every summer.
On Monday I found a dead Noisy Miner in the pool.
On Tuesday another.
Today, a dead kookaburra.
8 years or so with no drowned birds, then 3 in 3 days.
I cannot think of any plausible explanation for this expect coincidence. Any
ideas?
Paul.
