Hello Birders,
The birds of King Island need your assistance. Whether you have visited the
beautiful King Island before or not, we invite you to come and give us a wing.
There are great birds here - 10 of the Tasmanian endemics, 6 King Island
subspecies two being listed as Critically Endangered and two listed as
Vulnerable; good numbers of Hooded Plovers and other beach-nesting birds,
migratory sea, shore and water birds and the unexpected random arrivals such as
the 8 White-browed Woodswallows that where here in the Spring - and may still
be here. We don’t know.
The Wings on King project is a monitoring project of fixed sites that are
situated island-wide, with many on private land not accessible to other
visitors. It aims to find and tell the story of the Birds of King Island - and
to use that information to ensure their protection in the long-term.
King Island has a small human population though and very few good birders, so
we need help from the Australian Birding Community to lend us your eyes, ears,
knowledge and enthusiasm - to GIVE US A WING

To visit sites on private land you must be a registered participant. To
register visit: https://www.birdsofkingisland.com/register

If you are interested but can’t make those dates - no probs. Surveys can be
undertaken at any time of the year. Registrants will be assigned a WoKA (Wings
on King Assistant) who will help with your visit and develop a Field Plan for
you/your group, that suits your requirements.
We strongly encourage you to book early as accomodation, flights and car hire
on the island are limited.
We hope we will see you here…
