hi Jason, lovely image mate!
for mine, I'd say you have found yourself and photographed a very good looking
young BLACK Falcon.
it's not the best of viewed angles to help with ID between Black or Brown -
it's a little tricky.
And it does seem to be rather too long-legged from this bird's posture and
viewing angle to be a Black Falcon.
however, because of the total lack of facial pattern (ie teardrop), and also
because of the notched shape of the tail feathers (ie outer few tail feathers
are of similar length, but are clearly a bit shorter than the central tail
feathers, forming one step on either side of central feathers), I would say
that u have found yourself a perfectly good and handsome BLACK Falcon.

Dear Fellow Birders,
I was hoping someone could help identify this picture:

My thoughts are either Black Falcon or Brown Falcon juvenile. I am
heavily leaning towards Black Falcon because this individual doesn't
seem to have the 'Brown falcon teardrops' on the face, and we have seen
plenty of Brown Falcons.
Staring at the illustrations in Pizzey & Knight are confusing, though
pictures on Graeme Chapman's website seem to suggest it's Black Falcon.
This picture was taken at the Western Treatment Plant yesterday.
