Hi Jeelan,
I have both the Pizzey and Knight and Morcombe bird apps, albeit for
Android - although I wouldn't imagine much difference between platforms. I
bought the Morcombe app roughly 3 years ago and have loved every feature
except the bird drawings and locality maps. They really aren't very good at
showing fine detail. The bird call recordings are fantastic and were the
main reason I bought the app. I bought the Pizzey and Knight app about a
month ago as I got sick of the lack of detail shown in some of Morcombe's
wading bird drawings. The Pizzey and Knight app has absolutely fantastic
drawings and also includes several photographs of most birds, which I have
so far found very useful. The bird calls in this app are also very good,
although I haven't had a chance to listen to many. The location filter
works well in the Pizzey and Knight app, but I have found it to be quite
flaky in the Morcombe app.
If I had to choose between them, I would go Pizzey and Knight, although so
far i have found having both apps useful. Either app is more than capable
of replacing your paper copy, however for some hard to ID birds I still
like to cross-check with a book.
Cheers,
Jack
