Hi all I am going to be in the Lower Hunter area over the weekend, centred around Maitland. I am acting as driving chaperone for my son, who is coming up for the steam festival. There are a few gaps in his schedule where I am temporarily released and I am free to do some birding – any places that are worth a short visit right now? I do have the Maitland Bird Routes brochure from HBOC as a guide, plus I have convinced him that a visit to Hexham might have to be endured (although I am not sure what is about there at present). We are spending the night at Singleton – any suggestions for an early morning sortie and/or useful spots to look for owls in the evening in that area would be welcome too.
