It's sad to have to admit it but they get away with it because the majority
of the population don't care enough to get it stopped. They are too hard
pressed by family economics to give much thought for wildlife.

There would be few people subscribing to this service who would have much
truck with duck shooting or any other shooting of native animals for that
matter. What interests me is why an otherwise relatively progressive
government backs a such a pursuit in the first place. The cohort involved
would seem, at face value, to be unlikely to vote for a Labor government.
While the regionalism of Victoria has similarities with Queensland in that
there is a working class vote in larger centres like Ballarat and Bendigo
this would seem somewhat outweighed by the drift of votes from the ALP left
to the Greens in both the aforementioned and the Melbourne metropolitan
area. So if the actual electoral gain/pain is arguably ceteris paribus the
next 'usual suspect' is the power of a lobby group. Now, once again, the
individualists and 'preppers' of the huntin', fishin' and shootin' crew are
not usually natural allies of the party of, allegedly or at least professed,
collectivist socialist progressives. So who is pulling the strings on this
one and how much leverage do they have with Danny Boy and the fun team in
Spring Street?
