Peggy Mitchell, an icon of the Victorian birding community passed away on 3 October at the age of 94. Peggy was probably best known for collecting reports from amateur bird watchers and publishing these in the 'Bird Observer' the monthly newsletter of the Bird Observers Club later reconstituted as Bird Observation & Conservation Australia (BOCA). She performed that task from 1984 to 2002, covering the series numbered 43 to 152. Peggy and her late husband Hartley, were very also active in the Victorian Field Naturalists Club, Mornington Peninsula Group. On a personal level, she was a great help to me when I migrated from England to Australia. Thank you Peggy.
