The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period
Monday, August 29, 2016 to Sunday, September 4, 2016:
Area: SA
Date: Sunday, August 28, 2016
Location: On our Rockleigh property
Grey Shrike-thrush (Colluricincla harmonica) (2) A pair has moved in to the
trees near our shed, and they have been calling all day. One has found its way
into the dunny, maybe looking for a nesting spot. I rescued it twice on the
weekend as it flapped against the walls trying to get out. We can't see how a
bird that size can get in through the skinny gap that swallows used to squeeze
through, and there are no other holes. We think.
Black Kite (Milvus migrans) (1) A group of 16 black kites appeared for the
first time the day after the 2014 bushfire, looking for easy tucker, then we
saw one last November. This weekend we were burning dead bushes to remove fuel,
and were creating a fair bit of smoke. A black kite appeared, circled round
over the fire, saw a human rather than lunch, and went. They usually hang
around Murray Bridge, 25km away. Did it smell our smoke at that distance and
come looking for a meal ?
