The BirdLife Victoria Group has organised a GPS. The aim of the course is
to give people confidence in using their GPS so that they can use their
handheld GPS as a navigation tool in the bush and ultimately provide more
accurate locations for bird and other surveys which they may submit to
databases such at BirdData.
The course is aimed at novice and beginner users and will cover some of the
basics of navigation as well as how to use the GPS. Our typical attendees
already have a handheld GPS but seldom use it due to lack of understanding
of the device.
The course will be held in Melbourne. It will be in two parts.
Part 1: Thursday 14th July 7:00 - 10:00 pm. Basic concepts of navigation
and how a GPS can help.
Part 2: Saturday 16th July 10:00am - 3:00pm. Outdoor practice exercises
(marking a location, finding a location, following a route or transect)
The cost of the course is $40.00 per person.
