In the latest revision of the IOC taxonomy (6.2) released in April,
the Black-eared Catbird was split from Spotted Catbird. Looking at
the IOC web site, it seems to suggest that the northern population of
'Spotted' Catbird (sub species joanae) on Cape York is part of
Black-eared Catbird and they list it in Australia.

Does anyone know what is happening?
