Update:
Missing Brisbane author and journalist Andrew Stafford has made contact
with a friend and has indicated he will return home.
Musician Tim Steward, of the Brisbane band Screamfeeder, called the
author and journalist's phone about 12.30pm Tuesday and spoke briefly
with him, he told Fairfax Media.
Mr Stafford "sounded bruised", Mr Steward said, but told him he would
return to his home in the inner west suburb of St Lucia.
Mr Steward said he was unaware of the 44-year-old's location.
His phone had been detected in the early hours of Tuesday on the
Cunningham Highway near Warwick and there were unconfirmed reports
it had later been detected at Gin Gin, near Bundaberg.
Friends launched a campaign to find him after he made a series of
concerning social media posts on Monday before deactivating his
accounts.
The 44-year-old chronicled Brisbane's music scene in the 2004 book
Pig City.
He freelances for a number of publications and is also a Brisbane-based
AFL contributor for both the Brisbane Times and The Age.
