I’d suggest that you go to the birding-aus archives – usually good stuff in
there. I was there in January this year from 11-25 inclusive on a family
holiday but it seems I never got around to writing a trip report. But good
sites I found (and in roughly anti-clockwise order starting from Hobart) were:
a.. Bruny Island - we stayed at Inala for a night as a family indulgence to
me so I could see 40-spotted Pardalotes – lots of other good birds on the
property and the island.
b.. Waterworks Reserve Hobart – I did a good walk that started at the lower
dam and circled both the reservoirs
c.. Area on Tasman Peninsula around Port Arthur, incl Pirates Bay (Hooded
Plovers with chicks there)
d.. Tamar Is NR near Launceston (accessed from road that runs up west side of
Tamar)
e.. Area around Arthur River (NW Corner of island)
f.. Good birds on many walking tracks in Cradle Mtn NP, including the Dove
Lake circuit
g.. The heathland near the airport at Strahan good for E Ground Parrot,
Striated Fieldwren, S Emu-wren, Brown/Swamp Quail
h.. Several smaller reserves as we crossed the central highlands (Nelson
Falls, Franklin-Gordon Nature Trail) – got my first male Pink Robin at the
latter
Have a great trip.
Cheers
Tom Wilson
