Hi All,
A big thank you to James Mustafa and Paul Dodd for posting about the Morepork s
at Cape Liptrap. I looked up the location and it turned out to be close to
where we were staying with friends last night (Sunday) in Inverloch.

I set off around 9pm And arrived just after 9.30 pm. I had a new powerful torch
and my old one and with binoculars around my neck set off on the short walk
from the car park to the lighthouse. I was using my old torch and stopped at
the first lookout and a very what looked to me like dark green / brown owl was
on the ground around 4 meters from where I was looking. It was the smallest owl
I have seen. I then made a big mistake of fumbling with my bins while holding
my torch. The bird moved some distance away and again I tried to get my bins
onto it. What I should have done was to keep my old torch on it while getting
out my powerful Spotlight. The bird flew off and I wondered up and down the
track for over an hour, played the Morepork call and with my new spotlight and
there was not a single other sighting.
I had enough of a view to confirm the bird but I prefer a good long sighting. A
big thanks again to Paul and James. I could not find any other posts on
Birdline nor Facebook.
Happy birding,
Patrick
