Hi there
Wondering if any western Sydney birders can share their knowledge in a
slightly off topic request.
A couple of times in the last month while commuting I have seen what appear
to be white deer grazing in the parklands between Quakers Hill and
Schofields from the Richmond train line. Im assuming some local birders
would have come across these either here or in adjoining parkland along the
Eastern Creek.
Does anyone have any idea what species these are? They look like Fallow
but its hard to say given limited views from a moving train, and their
white colouration (thought they were goats on first sighting but they're
not).
I recently had my first local Fallow Deer sighting at Kurmond after 17
years of frequent visits here, and have had Red Deer higher up the hills.
Unfortunately there seems to be a significant amount of new development
kicking off in the open space between Blacktown and Vineyard at present,
especially around Schofields - doesnt bode well for the native
fauna utilising the grasslands and wetlands here, habitats under
development threat in many parts of western Sydney.
Cheers
Eric
