The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period
Monday, February 16, 2015 to Sunday, February 22, 2015:
Area: SA
Date: Sunday, February 22, 2015
Location: Laratinga Wetlands, Mount Barker
Australasian Shoveler (Anas rhynchotis) (30) About 10 of these birds were
feeding in rotating groups (vortex feeding), in the same way that Pink-eared
Ducks are known to do. The Shovelers were on the sewage settling ponds with
Pink-eared Ducks. Have they learned this behaviour from watching the Pinkies or
has this behaviour been observed before in Shovelers? Comments please.
