By the way, I have traveled in the past with tour groups (I was not the leader)
using Pygmy Owl tapes in S and Central America, and Pearl-spotted Owlet in
Africa to induce mobbing behavior. Not really much difference in using this
technique and pishing when you think about it

Birds can be easy to see, plus many individuals that are silent and would never
be noticed may come to the tape as well. It works best with feeding flocks.

I will be spending a month in S Australia Nov/Dec this year. In the US,
tape of E Screech-Owl can be very effective in attracting a variety of small
birds
(at least in the East). Is there a similar species in S Oz that
causes mobbing behavior??
