Hi all
While I send details of my more run-of-the-mill swift sightings to Mike
Tarburton at the end of the season, I've had a couple recently that I think are
worth sharing:

30 Dec at about 9am at the RTA rest area on the F3 at Ourimbah (NSW Central
Coast) was a big (my estimate 400+) flock of WT Needletails, circling in a
tight column with lowest birds just above treetops but the highest birds only
just visible to the naked eye.

2 Jan at 11:30am at my house (North Turramurra, Sydney) a group of 30 or so WT
Needletails that hung around for 20 minutes and included several pairs (and
even one group of 3 birds) doing synchronised flying. There were birds in this
group calling as well and they were low (rooftop height).

No For-tailed Swifts in either group that I could discern.
Cheers & best wishes to all for a 2015 full of good birds.
Tom Wilson
