Brown Quail vs button-quail

Thought the following bird behaviour observation might be of interest to
list members.

While camping at Terrick Terrick National Park last week we observed a
covey of 4 Brown Quail pass not far from our tent. The quail were moving
from one slightly higher vegetation (ground cover) area to the next and
had just entered a small patch of green grasses below a fallen Callitris
pine branch when a Painted Button-quail shot up vertically from the patch
as the bigger quail entered this patch. The button-quail landed about
half a metre outside this clump of grass.

The button-quail (and its mate) then made a beeline for a neighbouring
patch of cover.

I felt at the time that the smaller button-quail had been surprised by the
larger Brown Quail and took immediate action to get out of its way. This
could have been an aggressive action on the part of the Brown Quail and
suggests they were the dominant animal in the interaction.

Interested to hear others observations on anything similar.
