Subject: [Birding-Aus] Reluctant lister reports in
Greetings,
While I keep trip lists, a house list and an Australian list I do not visit the
last one often. However urged on by enquiries from friends who frequent birding
aus I have reviewed my Australian list thoroughly for the first time in about
five years and find that I have surpassed the 700 mark, 708 in fact. While I am
really not sure which was my 700th bird I’m going to claim the Grey-backed
Storm Petrel on the Eaglehawk pelagic as this is as close as I can go by my
memory of the order of their appearance.
When I arrived home I needed to get out and about to see what was happening and
spent two hours in the morning and three in the late afternoon searching in the
rainforests around the central and south-western Atherton Tablelands. Inspired
by having seen and heard so many birds I listed what I could remember and came
up with a neat 120 species. Considering that over an hour of this time was
spent in a bird poor environment and conditions searching for further Golden
Bowerbird bowers I was very happy to have such a list.
Thus, I have come here to blow my own trumpet and don’t need to be told that
that is what I am doing.
Many thanks to all my birding friends who share the fun of this activity; May
the birds continue to surprise and delight you, Alan
