Thu 19 Jun Freckled Duck Hasties Swamp National Park
Two Freckled Duck amongst the Plumed Whistliing-Duck yesterday morning. We thought it was unusual but a young ranger came to sweep the hide and told us they were regularly there. Got a few not very good photos.

Wed 18 Jun Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfisher Smithfield Conservation Park/Cairns- Panguna St access
Saw a Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfisher this morning (pathetic photo attached) at the Smithfield Conservation Park. Are they known to overwinter in the Cairns area? [Moderator Note:- HANZAB says a few overwinter (Thomae 1974; Qld Bird Reps)].

Mon 16 Jun Scarlet Honeyeater Tyto Wetlands, Ingham
Immature male Scarlet Honeyeater in understorey along creek near footbridge to owl platform about noon today. Two quick looks at bird with red coming through brown head and and streaked red down back. No chance for picture and no sign of bird again in 40 minutes' searching. First listing of species in Tyto. Also in area: 2 Black-faced Monarchs. Elsewhere along creek, male Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove briefly in Euodia.

Fri 13 Jun Bush Stone-curlew Trinity Beach (Cairns) - Nautilus St
Last Wednesday I was delighted to report 17 Bush Stone Curlews at Palm Cove . But on Friday I was stunned to count 51 Bush Stone Curlews in a single paddock next to the Trinity Beach Pony Club at the end of Nautilus Street They sure love Cairns !
