Magpie Geese certainly fly around at night, and they honk loudly as they go,
making them quite conspicuous. However, I've only heard this in North Qld where
they are common all year round. I imagine they do likewise in the Top End. I
haven't heard them migrating over the desert, for instance.

Their status in central NSW is clouded by introductions at Shortland Wetlands
(Newcastle) in the 1980s, just as they started recolonising northern NSW by
themselves (eg. Grafton records c 1981). The introductions at Serindip
presumably also cloud the natural status and recolonisation of the species in
Victoria.

Cheers,
David James
