If you have a car, George Reifel Bird Sanctuary is about an hour drive south of Vancouver CBD (via Ladner) http://www.reifelbirdsanctuary.com
Also check out Iona Island (just north of the airport) and Jericho Beach Park (west of the CBD on the way to UBC)
