Hi Tom Yes, I've seen Masked Owls on posts, twice. Once south of Eden in southern NSW. It was on a post as we drove by, we stopped thinking it was a boobook or something, it's upperparts were so dark, then when we stopped & looked back, it turned it's head revealing it as a Masked Owl. Face had that brownish cast & we could see it's big stout legs with large talons. This was sometime in the early eighties. A few years later I saw another bird on a post, this time in East Gippsland. Again it was dark & quite easy to identify. So yes, it would be quite a possibility that your bird was a Masked!-Kevin Bartram _______________________________________________ Birding-Aus mailing list To change settings or unsubscribe visit: http://birding-aus.org/mailman/listinfo/birding-aus_birding-aus.org |
