Hi all,

On Sunday, World Wetlands Day, more than 70 people visited Hird Swamp (Macorna
North, northern Victoria). Members of the Coalition Agains Duk Hunting were
present as were several members of Field and Game Victoria, several local
residents and several members of BirdLife Echuca District. The visit was
advertised as 'Breakfast with the Birds' and was organised by North Central
Catchment Management Authority.

Having received much environmental water, Hird Swamp is at near full capacity.
It is currently supporting thousands of waterbirds.

Over 50 bird species were observed at Hird Swamp yesterday morning, including
Freckled Duck, hundreds of Pink-eared Duck, Shoveler, hardhead, Blue-billed
Duck, three species of Cormorant, three species of Ibis, Royal Spoonbill,
Yellow-billed Spoonbill, Eurasian Coot, Black-winged Stilt, Lathams Snipe,
Whiskered Tern, Golden-headed Cisticola, Fairy Martin, Tree Martin and a range
of bush birds. WSe failed to observe the Brolgas which some CMA employees had
observed the previous day.

Secretary
BirdLife Echuca District
