Red-necked Avocet Mawson Bay, Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area
Adult observed on the afternoons of the 17th and 18th January between Doctors Creek and Wells Creek (south of West Point). Bird initially observed with Pied Oystercatchers and Silver Gulls; standing, feeding, flying. Observed on 18th with two Pied Oystercatchers sheltering from wind and feeding.
Fiona Hume

Thu 16 Jan Rainbow Lorikeet Fish Pond, Ulverstone
Found a pair perched and heard another four in the area-my first sighting in Tasmania. No luck with the Common Sandpiper.

Wed 15 Jan Eclectus Parrot Tinderbox
Male Eclectus Parrot, obviously an escapee; sighted feeding in a shrub beside the road. [Moderator's note: this bird has been reported in the area before; it is a pet which apparently returns when it is let out of its cage.]
Graham Collins

Latham's Snipe Scotts Peak Dam
Mid-morning. Stopped at one end of the dam, walked across and then drove down a short road to the base of the dam on Huon River. Latham's Snipe (1) flushed from the swampy area at the base of the dam.
Tim and Marg Roberts

Mon 13 Jan Spotted Quail-thrush Upper Scamander to St. Marys
Female collecting invertebrates near the roadside, feeding chicks somewhere nearby.
Dion Hobcroft

Sun 12 Jan Latham's Snipe Miena
Three birds disturbed from the marsh between the restaurant and the Great Lake. This is always a reliable place to find them during summer.
Bill Scott-Young and Leanne Sherriff

Sat 11 Jan Orange-bellied Parrot Melaleuca
At least 20 individuals returned this season according to research staff.
Dion Hobcroft

Wed 1 Jan Australasian Grebe Maria Island
