Probably not the sort of information you are looking for but a number of
years ago I lived at Ewingsdale in north NSW on a small farmlet. The owner
kept a couple of domestic geese and they had a clutch of about 10 goslings
while I was there. One of the goslings while still quite young managed to
get about 7 or 8 cattle ticks I think they were on the top of its head.
Seems an odd place for them to go and there were no others anywhere else on
this bird and none of the others seemed to have them either. The ticks were
removed and the gosling recovered and appeared to be quite normal except for
a deformed crown.

Cheers

Bob

Dear all,

A friend is putting together an information booklet on ticks, and wants to
know which birds carry and/or eat ticks? Does anyone have any information?

I imagine Cattle Egrets eat cattle ticks, but I've never had any luck trying
to feed 'shellbacks' to chooks or Brush-turkeys.
