Well, so far I've picked up 5 shorties, all 5 have died.  2 died before I could get them away from the beach.  Of the others, two weighed 370-380g each, another weighed 420g.  I'm afraid I didn't cut open their stomachs to check for plastic ingestion - I might get them back from the beach tomorrow and try that.  I would be very interested in that outcome.

I've seen another 10 or so dead on the beach between Bay St, Port Melbourne and Kerferd Rd, Albert Park.

Also I tried chucking some fish out to the shorties near the pier.  3 or 4 were very interested and fought off Silver Gulls to get some.  Another 10 or so didn't bother.  So either they are too exhausted to try, or there's nothing wrong with them.

It's been a good learning exercise, but such a shame.  Poor little blighters.  Thanks everyone for your comments, suggestions and help.
