Here are records from the Annotated list of Birds of the Top End (Thompson
and Goodfellow, 1991). There are no records I know of for Garganey in 1985
nor 1987, and I can't find any at all for Australian Shoveler or Australian
Shelduck.
Garganey (Anas querquedula)
Range and status: rare visitor to the northern coastal area only but may be
annual in very small numbers in the Darwin area. Neither Storr nor the
Atlas record this species. Crawford had the first record for the Northern
Territory at Fogg Dam, October 1976.
Records: three at Darwin SP in March 1975; one at Darwin SP in
October-November 1981; December 1982; one at Palmerston SP and also at
Warlock Ponds in November 1983; one male at Fogg Dam in November 1986; up to
16 at Snipe Swamp, November 1988; three at Snipe Swamp, November 1989 and
six there in December 1989 and up to 22 in January 1990. Nine at Fiddler's
Lagoon, January 1990, 126 at Darwin SP in early 1991.
Sources: Shurcliff & McKean (1990); unpublished known observers include,
Carter, Estbergs, D. Fisher, K. and L. Fisher, Goodfellow, Hertog, Lane,
Percival, Shurcliff, McCrie, McKean, Thompson.
