It might be worth looking at, is the Bad Elf Pro http://bad-elf.com/pages/be-gps-2200-detail I have not tried it but I recently bought a standard Bad Elf GPS, which plugs into your iOS device and am surprised at it's capabilities. The BE Pro can be used as either a standalone unit or with you iOS device. Prices for Bad Elf units are not too bad, USD 179.99 for the Pro and USD 129.99 for the standard unit.
