As most readers know, the Orange-bellied Parrot is in a great deal of
strife. It's down to fewer than 50 birds in the wild and looking down the
barrel of extinction. What's more, Commonwealth funding - which would have
helped pay for field work in the Tasmanian breeding grounds - was turned
down. There's a limit to what the OBP Recovery Team can do with limited
funding, so a new group is being formed to help.
The idea is to rustle up funds, and hopefully have a reasonably fun time
doing it. Marathons, art shows, sausage sizzles, whatever. People are
invited to attend a meeting in Melbourne on October 14 at 6 pm. It will be
at Journal Cafe, 253 Flinders Lane between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets
near Degraves Street. Coffee and meals available. RSVP
