Dear Birders, While it is true to say that IOC does not recognise “Tasmanian Boobook” this is only part of the story. IOC lists Morepork (Ninox novaeseelandiae) ssp. leucopsis as ocurring in Tasmania and islands in the Bass Strait. So under IOC if you see a “Boobook” in Tasmania it is a tick because it is a Morepork not a Boobook!
