Hello all. Not an Australian bird (well, it could be), but I know plenty of
you out there have a wealth of North American experience. I recently
photographed three waders flying over the sea off the coast of British
Columbia. The second two appear to be Dowitchers. The first has me stumped.
It ought to be easy to ID as it has clear markings, and I have both the
overwing and underwing on the record shots. I must be missing something
obvious, and yes, I have consulted several field guides.
Things to note:
1. Large size.almost as big as the Dowitchers.
2. Obvious white rump with greyish tips to tail
3. No foot projection.
4. Bold wing bar and blackish wingtips.
5. Straight medium length bill
Any help would be much appreciated.
