Thanks to the generosity of a friend, we spent 2 weeks holidaying at Lennox
Head late last month. Although birding was not top of the agenda, we did manage
to get out and about and were able to rack-up 138 species during the fortnight.
The birding highlights of the hols included:
Flat Rock, Ballina---- Wandering Tattler, Sooty Oystercatcher,
Ruddy Turnstone
Byron Bay Wetlands---- Black-necked Stork, 8 species of H/E
McMahon's swamp, Casino---- Black-fronted Dotterel, Common
Blackbird (Steve McB. reasonably
casts some doubt on this, local
birders could perhaps attempt to
confirm)
Victoria Park NR, Alstonville--- Noisy Pitta, Rose-crowned Fruit-
dove, Russet-tailed Thrush
Qld Rd swamp, Casino---- Hoary-headed Grebe, Glossy Ibis
Llewellyn's Rd, Casino--- Aust Hobby, Glossy Ibis, Yellow-billed
Spoonbill
Sextonville Rd swamp, Kyogle---- Black-necked Stork
Richmond Rv., Ballina---- Double-banded Plover
Border Ranges NP---- Albert's Lyrebird, Rufous Scrub Bird,
Paradise Riflebird (all heard only, none
seen)
