I have used a small sony recorder for over 4 years. I just turn from the
wind when recording in windy conditions. I don't usually speak while I'm
observing a bird close by but they don't seem to mind if you speak quietly.
It is excellent for recording calls of birds you are unsure of. I have done
that and checked later especially when we are in a far off area with lots
of new calls. Just make sure you carry spare batteries. If I bought a new
one I would get one that I could download to my computer.
