Hi allFriends of mine have recently returned from a trip out to the centre and across the Simpson and then south back towards Alice. They reported seeing *hundreds* of cats, so this is a very real threat to any ground hugging creatures. It seems landowners are unable to cope. PhilI would not hold my breath waiting for the calls to appear on xenocanto. The big question now is what steps are being taken to ensure to protection of the area where the parrot was reported from. John Young says it has been "secured" but by who? Have state authorities been alerted and if not, will they be? Presumably, this discovery affords a unique opportunity to implement steps to protect and manage a substantial reserve. The bird was reportedly seen and photographed in the vicinity of the Diamantina National Park in south-west Queensland. Was it in the national park?Hopefully some of these questions will be answered at John's announcement on Wednesday in Brisbane.Greg RobertsFrom: Phil & Sue Gregory < > Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2013 09:33:01 +1000 Well said Greg, I agree entirely, it does not detract from the current great find and we know he is a great bushman, but be aware of some puzzling past events. I look forward to seeing the calls up on xenocanto so the rest of us can have a go at locating it, the call is the key.......
