Dear Birders, Many thanks for the responses I got regarding this topic. Birding-Aus really is a great resource. Sue Abbotts from Perth put me onto a UK source of spares at . I checked their web site and they had the spare parts I needed and were incredibly responsive in acknowledging my order and getting it into the hands of Fed Ex. very different from the abysmal service provided by Manfrotto locally. Only downside is the rather steep delivery charge but still way cheaper than having to buy a whole new tripod which is what the local Manfrotto agents told the dealer I was working through.
