Hi Jenny, I have seen Sooty Owl in recent years at Macquarie Pass National Park, just south of Wollongong. One option would be to return to Sydney from Wollongong via Macquarie Pass and then on to the Hume Highway at Mittagong. Sooty Owl was found by parking at the start of Clover Hill Road, then walking along Clover Hill Road, checking any suitable habitat. I have also seen (but not heard) Sooty Owl at the start of Lady Carrington Drive, so this would be another option. Cheers, and good luck!
