Hi all, just thought i'd share my interesting find.
>Was at the Leanyer Sewerage Works in Darwin on Sunday 7th April...just
>recently. Originally scoping
>the place hoping for the Little Ringed Plover that has been sighted there a
>fair bit...may have already left on its
>voyage...i did see the Red kneed dotterel all alone amongst all the ducks.
>I said to myself...'Oh well, its not to be...would be nice to see something
>I began accelerating along the bitumen next to the treatment ponds to head
>towards the front gate and
>then home...when a bird flew up in front of my car flitted along and landed
>again and stood my naked eye
>i knew it was some sort of pipit but not a familiar one.....grabbed my
>binoculars and it was an:
>EASTERN YELLOW WAGTAIL ( Motacilla tschutschensis/race simillima/breeding)
>Yes...excited wasn't quite the word...overwhelmed with Amazement comes to
>mind...actually...nope, can't really find
>a word to fully describe what i felt at finally laying eyes on one. I know
>they've been seen at the ponds...but i'm not sure if its a regular thing each
>I was at Ash Island or Kooragang island/Newcastle last year and tryed to find
>it down wagtail way/road...dipped out there, rather dissapointing at the
>time. I figured oh well...another day...didn't realise it would be so soon.
>I was able to study its behaviour for 2 min max at the sewerage works/darwin
>before it took to the sky...bouncing along and calling with every undulation
>as it flew. I hung my head out the side of the car hoping it would reland
>behind the car in perfect light for photography but no....that was my brush
>with the yellow wagtail....
>I always said to myself....'When i see that bird...i'm going to get an AWESOME
>image of it...not like these blurry, smudged, looking through a windscreen
>with rain droplets on it kind of photography'....i did get some images....but
>what did i get....A blurry kinda image....nothing like i dreamed of, but still
>elated at the encounter.
>Unfortunately the perfect morning sun was shining on the OTHER side of the
>birds lovely yellow plumage and my images are mostly in a little
>shadow...frustrating but you get that
>Happy Birding
