Hi,

We are planning a holiday in North Queensland for July school holidays (flying from Perth). We hope to spend a few days around Lake Eacham on the Atherton Tablelands, a couple of days at Mareeba, a few days in Julatten, then 4 to 5 days around Daintree and back to Cairns for a couple of days. So much to see, so little time.

We visited Mareeba for a day visit 5 years ago but the lake was extremely low and there were very few birds around. It is rather expensive to stay there and I have seen a few reports about the poor birding there at that time of the year. Can anyone comment on recent times and (considering rainfall over the last year or two) whether it is likely to be good birding around then.

Does anyone have any suggestions for places not to be missed or recommendations for guides in the area.

Cheers Andrew and Jill.
